GIKEN LTD. announced that the Implant™ Method, using the hydraulic pile press-in and extraction machine SILENT PILER™ manufactured and sold by GIKEN, has been adopted once again for a riverbank protection project on the Pasak River, one of Thailand’s major waterways. The project covers approximately 52 km of riverbank improvement works aimed at ensuring safe vessel navigation and improving transport efficiency. Following the success of its press-in construction*¹ in one section of Phase 2, local contractor Thai Fullmore Co., Ltd. is now undertaking construction in an additional section of the same phase.
The site is located within the grounds of an educational institution. By using the vibration-free and noise-free
SILENT PILER™, riverbank protection work is being carried out while minimising disruption to the learning environment. In addition, the Implant™ Method creates resilient structures by pressing prefabricated piles into the ground and integrating them with the surrounding ground. This gives the riverbank excellent durability against flood damage. Besides facilitating vessel navigation, the project is expected to help protect the lives, property and culture of communities living throughout the river basin.
In June, the Engineering Institute of Thailand under H.M. the King’s Patronage organised a site visit and technical seminar at the project site, attracting 75 engineers. Participants observed firsthand how the technology addresses the constraints at the site, and the technology was highly praised.
Thailand’s construction market was valued at approximately THB 1.4 trillion (about JPY 6.7 trillion) in 2025*², with demand remaining strong due to continued infrastructure investment. Supported by the successful results achieved in this project, the press-in technology is expected to expand into other infrastructure projects facing similar challenges.

■ Riverbank Protection Project on the Pasak River
The Pasak River is a key logistics waterway flowing from northern Thailand through Ayutthaya, one of the country’s major industrial centres. During periods of low water levels, insufficient river depth has hindered cargo vessel navigation. This project was launched in 2015 with the aim of improving navigability and increasing transport capacity through riverbed dredging and riverbank protection works needed to secure sufficient water depth.

The sheet pile riverbank protection structures prevent riverbank collapse during dredging operations and help mitigate erosion caused by waves generated by larger vessels expected to use the river in the future. Under the project plan, riverbank protection structures will be constructed along a 52-km stretch upstream from the confluence with the Chao Phraya River, which flows through central Thailand. As the project is expected to proceed in phases, the positive evaluation achieved in this section may lead to continued adoption in other sections.
■ Construction Details
The SILENT PILER™ F301-900 is used to install a total of 527 hat sheet piles (900 mm wide and 15 m long).
The riverbank protection structure will extend 230 m and prevent riverbank collapse associated with riverbed dredging and vessel navigation.

■ Challenges with Conventional Vibratory Piling Methods
A method using vibratory pile drivers has been adopted in other sections of the project. However, because this site is located within the grounds of the Ayutthaya Ship Building Industrial and Technology College, vibration and noise generated during construction posed significant concerns.
Additionally, delays had occurred at other sites using the same method, making it necessary to deploy a larger number of machines to meet project deadlines. However, increasing the number of machines places greater demands on the management of safety, equipment and personnel.
■ How the Implant™ Method Addressed the Challenges
The Implant™ Method using the SILENT PILER™ enables vibration-free and noise-free piling operations, allowing construction to proceed without interrupting classes or practical training activities. Furthermore, with a simple process from construction preparation through site management, work can proceed smoothly and be carried out safely and efficiently using a single press-in machine.
For this project, Giken Seisakusho Asia Pte., Ltd., a member of the GIKEN Group, worked closely with Thai Fullmore Co., Ltd. and other partners to provide technical proposals to the project owner and related stakeholders. Going forward, the GIKEN Group will further strengthen market research and strategic planning through the Thailand Representative Office of Giken Seisakusho Asia Pte., Ltd. and continue working together to expand the market.
