GIKEN LTD. announced that its project was selected for the METI (Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry)’s FY2025 Supplementary Budget Global South Future-Oriented Co-Creation Project Subsidy*¹ in the categories of Feasibility Studies (FS) and Small-Scale Demonstration. The selected project is titled “India: Feasibility Study for the Deployment of a Disaster Prevention DX One-Stop Solution Utilising the Press-in Method and the Standardisation of the Method at the National Level.”
METI’s subsidy programme partially funds feasibility studies and small-scale demonstration projects conducted by Japanese companies with the aim of promoting market development in Global South*² countries and strengthening economic partnerships with Japan.
As climate change continues to heighten the risk of flooding and inundation across India, infrastructure development under severe constraints in urban and confined areas is becoming an increasingly urgent challenge. In this project, GIKEN will assess the feasibility of a Disaster Prevention DX One-Stop Solution that integrates the press-in method with DX technologies, including drones and BIM/CIM. The press-in method enables vibration-free, space-saving construction of resilient structures, while the DX technologies streamline site investigation and design by visualising civil infrastructure in 3D. The solution is designed to provide integrated support throughout the entire project lifecycle, from site investigation and risk assessment to design and construction. In parallel, GIKEN will identify the requirements and challenges for the national standardisation of the press-in method in India and develop a roadmap to incorporate it into civil engineering design standards and secure its designation as an approved construction method.
Through this project, GIKEN aims to contribute to the development of disaster-resilient infrastructure in Global South countries while promoting the global deployment of advanced Japanese construction technologies and advancing co-creation with these countries.

Background
Flooding and water-related disasters have become increasingly serious challenges in India due to the impacts of climate change. While large-scale infrastructure investment is progressing under the leadership of the Indian government, construction projects in urban areas often face strict site constraints, including the need to minimise impacts on the surrounding environment. At the same time, there is an increasing need to identify disaster risks at the survey stage and incorporate those findings into design and construction in order to build more resilient infrastructure.
■ Project Scope
Assessment of Infrastructure Needs and DX Solution Acceptability
GIKEN will investigate challenges associated with water infrastructure in selected regions of India and evaluate the local acceptability and effectiveness of DX solutions, including drone-based point cloud surveys and BIM/CIM-enabled construction proposals.
Evaluation of the Applicability of the Press-in Method
GIKEN will examine India’s civil engineering design standards, ground conditions, and cost requirements to identify the legal and technical challenges associated with adopting the press-in method. Based on site-specific constraints, including geotechnical and environmental conditions, the study will explore optimal combinations of construction methods and pile element options. It will also compare the press-in method with conventional construction methods to evaluate its advantages in terms of cost and construction time.
Assessment of Business Models for Commercialisation
GIKEN will assess potential pathways for commercialisation in India, including the establishment of a local subsidiary or a joint venture (JV) with local partners. The study will also identify the legal and regulatory requirements for obtaining construction licences and completing other necessary registrations. In addition, GIKEN will then examine how the business would be structured and responsibilities shared with local partners to evaluate the feasibility of the business model for commercialisation.
Developing a Roadmap for Incorporating the Press-in Method into National Standards
Through consultations with government agencies and industry organisations in India, GIKEN will examine the regulatory frameworks and procedures for incorporating the press-in method into national standards, identifying the challenges and requirements involved. The company will then develop a roadmap to incorporate the method into civil engineering design standards and secure its designation as an approved construction method.
