GIKEN LTD. (Head Office: Kochi-shi, Kochi; President and CEO: Atsushi Ohira) announced that three units (underground model; capacity of 228 bicycles per unit) of the ECO Cycle™ automated bicycle parking facility have been completed on the Hyogo Station side of the square on the northern side of Kobe Station and began operations on June 1. Under the main contractor DAITETSU KOGYO CO., LTD., group company GIKEN SEKO Co., LTD. (Head Office: Kochi-shi, Kochi; President: Akihiro Nishigawa) carried out the construction work.
The installation was carried out as part of the “Renovation Kobe” project, undertaken by Kobe-shi, to enhance the city’s brand and attract more people. By consolidating the bicycle parking facilities—which previously occupied most of the station square—underground, the area has been transformed into a bright, open space that harmonizes with the surrounding landscape of Kobe Station.
Construction is also underway on two additional units (underground model; capacity of 204 bicycles per unit) on the Motomachi Station side of the north plaza, with completion scheduled for fiscal year 2027. With a total of five facilities, the combined capacity will reach 1,092 bicycles.
With the completion of these three units, ECO Cycle™ has now been installed at 28 locations nationwide, with a total of 67 units. This marks its fourth location in the Kansai region, following Wakayama, Osaka, and Kyoto.
Around train stations and large-scale commercial facilities in urban areas, ECO Cycle™ helps enhance the local landscape while promoting the effective use of land resources. We will continue to work toward expanding its adoption in order to contribute to sustainable, safe, and secure urban development.
