Sustainability is where the GIKEN Group begins and ends

The GIKEN Group has been creating and providing solutions as a development-oriented company that solves global construction issues since our founding in 1967.
At the time of our founding, Japan was experiencing a period of rapid economic growth. Amidst a construction boom sweeping the nation, pile driving—which generates vibration and noise—was reviled as the “root cause of construction pollution.” Akio Kitamura, our founder who had been contracted for pile driving, grew increasingly frustrated with the manufacturers of machinery that spread pollution. Thus, he made a resolution to change the bizarre situation in which pile driving, which is essential for construction, was so despised. It was this passion that led to the invention the SILENT PILER™, which achieves vibration- and noise-free piling. Kitamura was not initially considering generating profits through sales; rather, he was driven by the pure desire to address social issues. This belief has been passed down through generations, continuing to fuel our mission of "Construction Revolution.” For us, sustainability is where the GIKEN Group begins and ends, and the very essence of our business.
Promoting sustainability management to continue fulfilling our mission
The GIKEN Group is about to celebrate our 60th anniversary. The society, environment, and economy surrounding us have changed rapidly during this time, and the world is facing various issues such as climate change, increasingly severe disasters, ageing infrastructure, widening inequality, and human rights violations. In this era of increasing uncertainty, we must appropriately address diversifying and expanding risks while leveraging our strengths to transform risks into opportunities in order to continue fulfilling our mission in the world. We have identified materiality as critical issues to be addressed in the medium to long term in order to promote sustainability management that balances the creation of sustainable social and corporate value while mitigating negative impacts.
Pursuing a virtuous cycle of social issue resolution by transforming risks into opportunities
Many of the risks surrounding our business can be transformed into opportunities if addressed appropriately. For example, addressing the issue of climate change has the potential to open up new markets by accelerating the proposal of temporary work-free construction technologies that significantly reduce CO2 emissions at construction sites, as well as the development of decarbonisation technologies. We will solve social issues through the superiority of our press-in technology to connect people's lives, property, and culture to the future, and we will continue to tackle further social issues by returning and reinvesting the profits we generate. In doing so, we will enhance environmental, social, and economic sustainability and achieve sustainable growth by realising a virtuous cycle while managing various risks.
The GIKEN Group will continue to engage in dialogue and collaboration with our stakeholders, flexibly address changing times and needs, and lead the way in solving global social issues.
