User Acquisition in India

As a Starting Point for Full Scale Entry into the Huge Market

2022.10.4 NEWS RELEASE

A group company of GIKEN LTD. (Head Office: Kochi, President: Shinnosuke Moribe), Giken Seisakusho Asia Pte., Ltd. (Head Office: Singapore, President: Yoshihisa Fujisaki) has delivered a reaction-based hydraulic pile jacking machine "SILENT PILERTM F301-700" to an Indian construction company, Nalanda Engicon Private Limited (hereafter “Nalanda”). Nalanda is currently the only user in India and will be a clue to full-scale entry into the huge market.

This is one of the specific measures toward the long-term vision of “70% overseas sales ratio” and “100 billion yen in sales in 10 years” set forth in the mid-term management plan. We will support Nalanda in every aspect, including maintenance, on-site engineering, and sales, and will accelerate market development by demonstrating press-in technologies' superiority in markets with strong infrastructure demand.

■India -A Huge Market Potential-

India is a vast national land with a world second-largest population of over 1.3 billion, and has grown rapidly since its economic liberalization in 1991. At the same time, infrastructure development has been an issue, and the government plans to invest 160 trillion yen over a five-year period beginning in 2019. While water, sewage, and port facilities need to be improved, there will undoubtedly be projects in the future where the advantages of press-in technology can be demonstrated, such as "no vibration and noise," "space-saving construction," and "temporary work free construction”. India is an "untapped" market with great potential for our group.

■Maximize Effectiveness with the Latest Model

The F301-700 is one of the most popular models in our latest series of global standard machines “F-Series,” and is compatible with Z and U steel sheet piles, which are in high demand overseas. By providing Nalanda with technical and maintenance guidance, GIKEN will fully demonstrate the advanced functions of the F301-700 and realize the best possible press-in construction works in India. In addition to proving the advantages of the press-in technology to construction professionals in India through on-site training, working with Nalanda to promote the method which leads to the development of new users and machine sales.

■Outlines of Construction

For a project to develop a water drainage facility in the city of Cuttack, Odisha, sheet piles will be used to provide the necessary earth retaining walls during construction. In the construction work started in this January, approximately 7,000 U-sheet piles with a width of 750 mm will be pressed into the ground over a distance of 5.8 km on both banks using the "SILENT PILERTM F301-700".

An earth retaining walls are structures designed to restrain soil when excavating the ground.

■Selection Basis

Since the site is located in a narrow area close to residences, in the past, the construction of an earth retaining wall using a vibratory pile driving in other sections caused cracks in neighboring buildings and other problems that affected the lives of residents. As a result, sites requiring earth retaining works by sheet piles have remained untouched.

The "SILENT PILER TM" was selected for its excellent environmental performance that does not affect the lives of nearby residents because of its "vibration and noise-free" construction capability.

■Future Expectations

At the groundbreaking ceremony for this project held in January, the project manager, who was highly inspired by the superiority of the press-in technology, invited the other clients to a guided tour and widely promote the advantages of the press-in method. Although it normally takes time to gain public acceptance for a new construction method that has not been proven yet, this event gave momentum to the popularization of the press-in method among the senior officials who are planning various projects.

In these days, more and more Japanese companies are setting up operations in India. We expect that inquiries from not only local companies but also those Japanese companies that have seen or heard about our press-in technology in India will increase, leading to future sales growth.
