G-Kracht B.V., a joint venture company established primarily by Giken Europe B.V, a group company of GIKEN LTD. (Head Office: Kochi-shi, Kochi; President and CEO: Atsushi Ohira), together with Dutch construction companies Gebr. De Koning B.V. and Van Gelder B.V., has completed pilot work in the new technology development project aimed at renovating the quay walls of the World Heritage-listed Canal Ring Area of Amsterdam. Full-scale construction in the commercial phase is now progressing smoothly. The construction machinery, press-in system, and the power unit serving as their power source have all achieved full electrification, making the project a model case for achieving zero emissions at a press-in site.
Construction is currently being carried out under strict environmental restrictions that emphasise preserving the appearance of the World Heritage canal district, making full use of the knowledge gained during the pilot work (length 208 m, completed in July 2023), which was the step preceding the commercial phase. G-Kracht B.V. is scheduled to receive contract orders for a total of 3.3 km by 2032. Subsequently, sustained revenue generation over the long term is also anticipated for this project due to the necessity for renovations spanning as much as 200 km.
The on-site visit conducted in June saw participation from 16 organisations—primarily engineering companies—and 26 participants. During the briefing by the on-site manager, construction continued quickly and silently, and there were even participants who did not realise that piling had been completed. Showing the actual machinery is an extremely effective way to promote increase the adoption of the construction method, and GIKEN will continue to use this project as an excellent showcase for further business expansion in Europe.
