GIKEN LTD. (Head Office: Kochi-shi, Kochi; President and CEO: Atsushi Ohira) has established and commenced operation of Press-in Dojo, a training facility within the premises of Kansai Factory (Tamba-shi, Hyogo) for domestic and overseas engineers to systematically acquire knowledge and skills about press-in technologies. The curricula were formulated based on trial training programs conducted in the past for national staff of overseas subsidiaries as well as domestic and overseas users. The facility was also given a practice field with equipment and materials such as press-in machines (SILENT PILER™ F111 and F301) and steel sheet piles to create a more practical training environment. Trainees can—within a short, focused period—learn the mechanism of the press-in principle and fundamental knowledge as well as press-in machine operation and maintenance techniques using actual machines.
Recently, eight employees from Singapore’s BOUIN PTE. LTD. and India’s Deltoid Trading Private Limited came to Japan in June. They went through 10 days of training by in-house instructors with specialised knowledge. After returning to their respective countries, they will be involved in press-in construction such as urban development and infrastructure development.
GIKEN will continue to work on creating environments that can provide high-quality technical guidance optimally and continuously to develop engineers who can play active roles in places all around the world.

■Press-in Dojo
Press-in Dojo is part of the technical support offered under GTOSS™*. It is a program that uses standard training curricula to develop mainly domestic and overseas users as well as employees of the GIKEN Group, including those from overseas subsidiaries. Currently, there are two courses for operators (a standard course for the operation of pile press-in and extraction machines and a course for the operation of hard ground press-in machines) and two courses for mechanics (two-day and five-day courses for press-in machine maintenance). It is one of the strategies for accelerating the basic strategy of “Proactive global market expansion” in the Mid-Term Management Plan.

■ Example of Press-in Dojo Operation
The two companies that sent employees to Japan this time are group companies who are purchasing new SILENT PILER™ machines—flagship products of GIKEN—to venture into the press-in construction business in Singapore and India as well as Indonesia where they have business locations. The business is aimed at the development of infrastructure such as airports, railways, and expressways. In India, there are plans for business involvement in urban development at the southern part of Chennai in the near future.
After classroom lessons regarding the basic principles of press-in machines, trainees underwent simulator training before receiving practical guidance on operation, assembly and disassembly, and maintenance. Four manager-class trainees also visited the Information Transmission Base for Press-in Technologies RED HILL 1967 (Konan-shi, Kochi) during the training period. They saw structures that used press-in technologies as well as press-in machines compatible with various pile elements, deepening their knowledge regarding the practicality of new methods being advocated by the GIKEN Group.
