Donating to the MOBILE ECO Cycle™ to Kamiyama Marugoto College

Having students participate in design and co-creating new value through manufacturing

2025.3.6 NEWS RELEASE

GIKEN LTD. (Head Office: Kochi-shi, Kochi; President and CEO: Atsushi Ohira; hereafter “GIKEN”) has announced that it has donated the movable bicycle parking system MOBILE ECO Cycle™ to the private technical college Kamiyama Marugoto College, which opened in Myozai District, Tokushima Prefecture in April 2023, and the system was completed on January 27.

Since last autumn, GIKEN has supported the school’s philosophy of developing individuals with “the power to create things that bring about change” as a future-focussed educational institution. We have contributed to its education through manufacturing experiences that use the MOBILE ECO Cycle™ as teaching material. In October 2024, the school began implementing special classes taught by our employees. Under the guidance of GIKEN, the students themselves engaged in the design of the exterior walls, assembled machinery, and adjusted the control program. The completed MOBILE ECO Cycle™ will be used as a bicycle parking lot within the school.

This project began in October 2023, when we visited the school as a member company of the Shikoku Economic Federation, which is working to revitalise the Shikoku region. We hope that such collaboration among Shikoku companies and schools to support students who will be responsible for the creation of new growth industries in the future will lead to the prosperity of the economy and society of Shikoku and Japan as a whole.

This space saving, high storage capacity bicycle parking system can be quickly installed when and where needed and easily removed when no longer needed. Because of its simple kit assembly, setup work can be completed in one to two days and removal work can be completed in one day. Transport can be carried out with a single truck. The exterior surface can be printed freely to suit the landscape. In addition, it can store 58 bicycles within a 46 ㎡ space, which is 2.3 times more efficient than a typical flat parking lot. The average time taken to exit the parking lot is a speedy 9.7 seconds, so users will not be kept waiting even during the rush hour to and from school.
